Michael Sherman is an emerging baritone saxophonist based in South Florida. Michael grew up in Miami Beach, FL, and was heavily influenced by his father, marty Sherman, an R&B musician, who raised him in a multi-instrumental household. From his living room couch there were at least five different instruments within arms reach. Michael received his first saxophone from his father at the age of 13. An old baritone sax stored in the back of the home music studio. That was the beginning of his love for the saxophone. He went on to attended New World School of the Arts for high school in Miami. In 2004, At the age of 16, he received an outstanding soloist award from Wynton Marsalis at the Essentially Ellington Jazz Band Competition in New York City. At age 18, he was chosen to be part of the  prestigious Grammy Jazz Ensemble and traveled to L.A. to perform with multiple jazz legends, as well as record an album at Capitol Records. He went on to attend  Manhattan School of Music  and graduate with a degree in Jazz Performance on the Baritone Saxophone. While in New York, he  performed with multiple big bands and small groups, including his own group, the gerry mulligan tribute quartet . He was nominated for a 2009 Latin Grammy on the album "Kenya Revisited live" and a 2010 Latin Grammy on the album "Tito Puente Masterworks LIVE".  Michael was Also an avid street musician while living in New York and would regularly perform in the Music Under New York subway musicians program with a 6 to 8 piece funk orchestra. In 2010, He appeared on nationwide primetime television in the opening montage of "The Simpsons 20th Anniversary Special". He has performed through multiple outlets on various cruise ships  in both big bands and small groups, which traveled  all over the Caribbean Islands and Hawaii.  Michael has  had the honor to share the stage with Wycliffe Gordon, Terrence Blanchard, Oscar Peterson, Hank Jones, Wynton Marsalis, Irma Thomas, Carlos Santana, Candido Camera, Duffy Jackson, John Fedchock, James Moody, John Faddis, Benny Golson, Terrel Stafford, Ted Nash, Bobby Sanabria, Allen Toussaint, Ted Rosenthal, Barry Harris and others. Since 2012, he has been part of Lenny Kravitz's horn section and performed on the "Strut World Tour" and "Raise Vibration World Tour" .  Michael is currently based in South Florida when he's not on the road and continues to play when he's in town.
